Spring Break

Last week we had spring break while Daddy was off from work.  We spent the beginning of the week getting things done around the house while the girls played outside in the beautiful spring weather.  The big project was painting Rachel and Ruthie’s bedroom, which Jake spend so much time on.  It is now a nice peachy tan color.

The end of the week was spent in Pennsylvania with my parents.  Kelly also came for part of the weekend.  We enjoyed a nice, relaxing weekend with them.  Mom even threw a little egg hunt for the girls.

One of the definite highlights of the week, though, was a visit with our friends the Zylkas, from Maryland.  We met them at a park in Lancaster and enjoyed a day of playing and catching up.  Our girls, especially, had really been missing each other, having not seen each other for well over a year.

Oh, Suzie and Jonathan were making us so nervous around the pond!

GCC Girls Weekend

I had the chance this weekend to meet up with some of the girls I went to college with at Grove City.  There were 10 of us that typically hung out, but only 5 of us were able to come, the others being kept away by such things as distance, school, and previous obligations.  It was wonderful to be able to catch up with the ones who were able to make it, hearing about children, husbands, jobs, and churches.  It is always amazing how quickly we can catch up after being apart for so long!

Here you can see Andi, me, Kristin, Anna (with her daughter Susie), and Dawn.  The babies are Kristin’s twins – she is holding Lucy, and I have not-so-happy Elijah, both so adorable!  They did not lack for lovin’ while they were with us!

Gingerbread Houses

We had a lot of fun on Wednesday decorating gingerbread houses with two other families.  My friends, Laurie and Jenny, invaded my home, bring with them a total of 7 kids.  That made for 11 very “lively” children running around the house!

It took us moms a while to get the houses assembled, but once we got them together, the kids had so much fun decorating them.  We had three houses and a bunch of cookies that we cut out of broken pieces of gingerbread.  The houses all looked great!  The cookies…  well, the younger girls had a blast trying to fit as much candy on each cookie as possible, with no thought to beauty or symmetry.  Note Rachel’s pretty snowflake cookie below, next to cookies done by Ellie and Suzie.  See the difference??

Anyway, I loved the day!  I especially found it grand to hang out with Laurie (a long-time friend) and Jenny (a new friend).  I enjoyed the conversations we somehow managed to have in the midst of lots of noise – and I know that my 4 girls were the loudest of the bunch!

I do not want to neglect to mention that Jenny actually made the houses!  She put so much time and effort into them – cutting and baking…  That is a lot of work that I don’t think I would be willing to do for my own girls, let alone two other families.  I would just buy the kit!  Thank you so much, Jenny!
