Recycling Week

This week in school, we learned about recycling.  Of course, we read some books on the subject, but there is nothing like a field trip.  Oh, how I wish we had remembered our camera when we went to the Portage County Recycling Center — everyone had to wear hard hats and reflective vests.  Even Isaac had on a hard hat, though it kept falling off!

It was really neat to see how much garbage can actually be recycled.  Oh, my!  The piles of plastics, glass, and paper!  We all are so glad that we already recycle.

Today we made a few crafts from recyclable materials, following the book Remake It! by Threadgould.  The girls covered switchplates for their rooms, plus one for Isaac.

They also made placemats out of grocery bags by simply ironing five bags together (this is one of those projects that you just smile at because the kids seem to like it – I don’t think they will be around here for long).
